We are excited to have a intense first week of the Dormition Fast. The Dormition Fast can actually be thought of as the fast of the Process of Salvation, we start with the Cross, then meet at the transformation and encounter of the Transifiguration and end with the Falling Asleep of the new Eve (Theotokos). So while its about the Theotokos its more about her as the model for our lives. She heard the word of God and kept it so well, that she of all women in history was chosen not only to hear His Word but give birth to it (Him). So while we fast in contemplation of her life, we are simultaneously preparing ourselves to live a life in imitation of her
Thursday, August 1 St. Silouan House of Hospitality - 9:30am to 2:30pm Each Thursday, our St Silouan parish continues the liturgical life of our community - gathering, praying, and sharing a meal together. Come and be connected to others, brothers and sisters in Christ. For those who cannot for one reason or another be present during this communal work of mercy, you can participate through your prayers as well as through an offering. If you are interested, please speak to Fr. Paul about offering food/or the cost of a meal in memorial of a loved one. If you'd like to stop by and grab a cup of coffee with the community and/or Fr. Paul, by all means, please do! Vespers for Elevation of the Cross & Lesser Blessing of Waters - 6:30pm to 8:00pm Let us come together in prayer and contemplation, drawing the beauty of our Lord's Cross into the depths our very being. Without such contemplation, there can be no imitation of so great a love. " Come, all ye kindred of the nations, with hymns let us honor the Cross of the Lord. Rejoice, O Cross, thou perfect redemption of fallen Adam." Friday, August 2 Paraclesis to the Theotokos - 6:30pm to 7:30pm " O Theotokos, we shall not cease from speaking of all thy mighty acts, all we the unworthy ones; for if thou hadst not stood to intercede for us, who would have delivered us from such numerous dangers? Who would have preserved us all until now in true freedom? O Lady, we shall not turn away from thee; for thou dost always save thy servants from all manner of grief." Saturday, August 3 - Phase 1 of our renovations @ 12pm By God's grace, we are beginning the beautification of our parish. This Saturday a few faithful (already signed up) will load up a truck with reno' materials and head to church. We need a group of volunteers to arrive at 12pm to help carry the materials out of the truck and into the church. Come whatever your skills, whatever your capacity, and even whatever your kids might be doing (in fact, if you have kids, come and give them memories of their parents building a church). We'll do this until we begin vespers. - Vespers @ 4:30 pm (Holy 7 Youths of Ephesus) Apolytikion of Holy 7 Youths of Ephesus Thy Martyrs, O Lord, in their courageous contest for Thee received as the prize the crowns of incorruption and life from Thee, our immortal God. For since they possessed Thy strength, they cast down the tyrants and wholly destroyed the demons' strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by their prayers, save our souls, since Thou art merciful. Kontakion of Holy 7 Youths of Ephesus They that scorned all things in the world as corrupted and found the gifts that nothing ever corrupteth, behold, they died, and yet corruption touched them not. Wherefore after many years once again they all rose up, burying all unbelief of malicious revilers. Ye faithful, let us laud the seven youths with hymns of praise on this day, while extolling Christ.
