Who we are

We are a multi-ethnic Orthodox Christian parish serving in English in the Regent Park community of Toronto that’s as diverse as the city itself.
Many traditions are reflected at St. Silouan’s -- Greek, Romanian, Serbian, Coptic, Ukrainian, Arabic, Russian -- and like Canada, we take pride in welcoming all: converts, cradle Orthodox and Christianity curious.
Established in Toronto in 2002, St. Silouan's Orthodox Church is a mission parish of the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
We are inspired by the roots of Christianity that is the unbroken tradition of the Orthodox church. We are a community of welcome and refuge, ministering to poverty whether external or internal, obvious or well hidden
Our vision is to live out the gospel serving those in need and proclaim the good news of the resurrection to the world. We strive to be a part of our urban fabric, a place of connection and radical anti-isolation -- a local church. Where Christianity can meet with the present world, and be welcoming to all whether Christian or non-Christian, believer or not.
St. Silouan the Athonite Orthodox Church is a registered charity.
Our charitable number is: BN 79344 8671 RR0001.

Who you'll meet
At present there are about 60 – 100 of us at a Sunday service.
We have a lot of young families, with a high proportion of children from newborn to teens. Our spiritual leadership -- priest, sub-deacon, readers – all have children.
You’ll meet couples where one partner is Orthodox, the other is not. Plus empty nesters, grannies, aunties and uncles.
Some of us live within the city of Toronto, a few minutes away or in Regent Park itself, but many travel a considerable distance to come to services.

What we do
We like food and we like to share it. If you come for a Sunday liturgy you’ll be invited to stay for lunch. We have big meals on feast days like Christmas, Pascha (Easter), and our parish saint’s Slava or anniversary.
Through Worship and Prayer, particularly through Liturgy of the Eucharist, we strive to have a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and offer our lives back to the Trinity.
Serving our Community, striving to combat the poverty of isolation, on Monday nights we serve meals open to whoever drops-in at Noble Joseph House. This is the Liturgy of our day to day life's were we meet God in the other.
We attempt to learn about how to live our faith through regular individual and communal study. For Children and Youth we have schooling on Sunday (Phos) for about 1 hour, for 3 different ages groups and an active youth group.
It’s important to note that while these activities are guided and supported by our priest, they are not necessarily led by our priest. They are usually driven and led by members of our parish community. We’re very much looking forward to doing more in the future and are open to new ideas from our parishioners.
