Why?
We believe that we must serve the needs of the community that God has made us a part of. St John Chrysostom calls it the liturgy of the two tables -- the altar and the shared table of hospitality. Both are necessary and sustain each other.
The world should know us by our action and not words, as faith without works is meaningless (James 2:14-26). Through welcoming the stranger, we just may encounter Christ like on the Road to Emmaus.
Who is in need?
We all are! Everyone one of us has brokenness and are burdened by our own poverty.
Surround by the comfort and safety that contemporary urban Canadian life has to offer, the most common poverty is an inner one. Loneliness and lack of purpose, or value. We try to combat this poverty through engaging with everyone in our community, including the hungry, homeless, elderly, prisoners, refugees, victims of domestic violence, working families, persons with developmental disabilities, the oppressed and the marginalized.
Through serving our community in downtown Toronto we can hope to begin to heal ourselves.
How You Can Help
Please join us whenever you can, however you can. Please keep us in your prayers.
You can also provide food or share in the cost of a meal, too. A beautiful tradition is making the offering of a meal in memorial of a loved one. Please contact Father Paul.
