We were blessed with a beautiful crisp sunny Palm Sunday to begin Holy Week 2023. One of our younger parishioners, carried by youthful zeal, no doubt, missed the right turn but his brother convinced him not to proceed to process around the block by himself. There are services every day this week. Even if you have waited till the 11th hour, please join us and don’t miss out on this beautiful journey of faith.
Orthodox Christianity curious? This is an opportunity for you to slow down, quiet your world and get a taste of our rich liturgical life. Check out the calendar or download our full schedule here. We were delighted and grateful that Father Ephraim was able to join us for Sunday liturgy and talk on April 2nd. As it so happens Father Paul fell ill, (he’s fully recovered, since, by the way), so we were fortunate that Fr. Ephraim was able to step in and serve the liturgy too! After, Father Ephraim gave a talk on the subject of the sacrament of confession. So generous, with his time, Father Ephraim fielded a variety of questions from the profound to the practical. Such as preparing for confession, balancing forgiveness with self-care with those who have abused you, to how to fast before the communion. In his answers Father Ephraim mixed a rich knowledge of the history and traditions of various Orthodox churches and deep and loving insight in how we can live in faith today. A profound thank you to Father Ephraim for visiting us. We so look forward to many more visits in the future. We invite you to join us for Holy Week as we walk with our Lord to his Passion to witness Christ's resurrection and the celebration of Pascha (Easter).
We welcome all to join us in our journey towards renewal, forgiveness, and hope; to come and experience the transformative power of Christ's love through the Holy Week services in our Orthodox Mission Church. Father Ephraim became a monk on the Holy Mountain in Greece, and he was the cell-attendant of Elder Ephraim in Arizona for 20 years. Come join us for liturgy and meet Papa Ephraim! On February 12th, Fr. Paul blessed the new Ministries Council and the Board of our church. Ministries Council oversees the day-to-day function of the church, from serving meals to ensuring there are candles to light; from organizing celebrations, to teaching our children... and so much more. Our annual St. Nicholas Day celebrations included carol singing, cookie decorating, stories, lots of treats and, of course, a visit from St. Nicholas himself! And here are a couple of pictures from the start of our Christmas Eve Services.
To the newly ordained from our parish: Deacon Michael, Sub Deacon Maurice, Sub Deacon Aubrey, Axios, Axios, Axios! During the first weekend of October, we enjoyed a wonder-filled and joyful couple of days at Camp Nazareth, culminating in ordinations of St. Silouan's newly minted clergy! The sweetness of the Holy Spirit seemingly enveloped our every gathering and activity as though He was affirming and blessing all of us, as well as the ordained. We are thankful for the memories we will cherish for a lifetime and are fortunate to have witnessed these good happenings. Pease warmly welcome and pray for our newest parish servants and their families. We will celebrate their ordinations after our Divine Liturgy on Sunday, Oct 22 Πάντα άξιος Always Worthy! Dear beloved brothers and sisters, Christ is among us! This year we were blessed to celebrate our 20th year as a parish, which is shaping up to be a red letter year in the life of our community! We eagerly await the extra "staffing" on the liturgical and pastoral side of our growing parish. We are wowed by all the many makeovers and facelifts to our temple space, particularly the addition of the 'Communion of the Apostles' icon installed in the apse of our parish. And we are blessed this year with a reinvigoration of life from the service and activities of the whole community through the work of our Ministries Council. The warmth and liveliness of this year's Parish Slava accurately reflects the mood of our praying community. A very special thank you to everyone who helped bring this event together. A great thank you to Theda and the Special Events Ministry team. Kathy and the Beautification Team, and Alexei and the Agape Ministry Team! As well, I would like to thank the many others who each helped in their own way whether small or large:
The joy of the day would not have been received without your generous, selfless offering. And thanks so much for Father Pau and Matushka Catherine for visiting us and celebrating with us. Your presence truly made the day extra-special! May our parish ever continue to be known for our collective dedication to Christ and to others. Thank you all once again for making our Slava a special day! Peace and blessings, Fr. Paul |
